First of all, I've heard that you shouldn't condition your hair every time you wash it. Then, I've also heard that you should deep condition it every time you swim. I swim four days a week, sometimes our practices are 3 hours long. My hair (which I had permed back in June) is curly and very dry. I use Pantene's Shampoo %26amp; Conditioner for curly hair. It is wonderful!! Also, the rule of thumb about not conditioning every day would not apply to you since you swim so much and your hair is permed.
I would condition every day %26amp; deep condition at least once a week. There may be a deep conditioner for permed hair.

use coconut/almond hair oil and massage it into you hair and scalp once a week (keep it in over night) you will see the difference after a month or so....you hair will be softer and silkier but the trick is to maintain this conditioning treatment..the more you do the better it gets....

I would suggest Biosilk. You can get it at the higher up hair salons. I will warn you that it is expensive...$40 a bottle but usually, the bottle will last a year and a half. I use it everyday after I shower. Just a tiny bit works. It makes your hair EXTREMELY soft and silky. I used to use conditioner but with this stuff, you won't need it after a few washings. It helps with flyaways and helps a bit with frizz. As for taming the poofiness, I would use a thick mousse or a light gel. (Try paul mitchell's spray gel or mousse.) After applying mousse/gel, take small sections of your hair and twirl around your finger to get more defined curls. Once you have done that, don't comb to your hair. The more you leave it alone, the better it will behave. Good luck!!!

- Read the book and visit the sites below about curly hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your curly hair- be happy for life!
- To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel, a leave in cream, and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser (reduces frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).
-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Most shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sodium laureth sulfate or anything close to that). They dry out curly hair. Also you shouldn't brush your curly hair dry because it damages the hair and makes it poof.
- Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. It will clean everything but super clingy silicones (cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone are examples). Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse with cold/cool water.
- Do not brush/comb your hair after this point because it wil disturb the curl pattern (make sure you already have a part). It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair with your fingers. Make sure gel is evenly distributed everywhere in your hair. If you use too much you can always scrunch out the crunchy texture later.
- Use paper towels or an old t-shirt to gently scrunch some of the water out (generic towels can make hair frizz). You can either let your hair air dry or wait ten minutes and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser. Dry until your hair is almost dry, and then let air dry the last bit. Do not touch the hair while it is air drying or it will frizz!
- Use a moisturizing conditioner, such as Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Conditioner (found at health food/organic stores) or Activate Hydrating Conditioner (drugstore). The combo of products that I use daily is L'Oreal Out of Bed Weightless Texturizer (comes in a black-colored tub) and then Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel or Body Envy Gel, but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites. The products I recommended are my personal favorites and contain no silicones.
- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This may take a couple weeks to begin working. Before you decide to quit shampoo, do a final cleanse with shampoo and stop the use of any products with silicones in them. Hope this helps!

to prevent the frizz when is curly use pantene for curls, the red line, and when is straight use john frieda's leave on cream, put it before you dry your hair and you will see the results.
They are several things that you can do to make your hair less frizzy, more smooth, straight, and manageable without using chemicals or heat. Moisture is extremely critical to make your hair less frizzy and keep your curls bouncy. However, you need to infuse your hair with long-lasting moisture that comes from within your body and also from the application of a product. You need both to make your frizzies less.
Tip #1: Do conditioning pre-wash treatments to your hair before shampooing it. Simply whip up 2 tablespoons of Mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and a 1 egg. Let it remain on your hair for at least an hour. The lemon juice will act as a straightener. The mayonnaise and egg will strengthen and moisturize your hair. Do this 2-3 times a week.

hmm... I would say you need a good shampoo, a good conditioner... and perhaps you should look into an oil or a gel--I would recommend in all honesty--John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Styling Creme (step 5). It's a tiny touch expensive but you don't need too much and it makes your hair feel awesome. I usually pay like $5 or $6 for it. It comes in a silver tube that looks like it could be tooth paste! You could also look into a straightener if you wanna do that--buy ceramic flat irons only! (I hear the Maxiglide is awesome!--it releases bursts of steam and the results are amazing!) they cause less damage. Ceramic heated hair dryers too--and only get the ones with the ionizer--that goes for flat irons too. Also--don't ever do Japanese Straightening--it's easy and convenient because it stays allegedly for 3 months, but it will damage your hair. But--always note--olive oil is great for your hair!
Try Curls Rock! They have the entire line from shampoo to gel for curly hair and it is fabulous! Never use mousse if your hair is very curly like mine... I also use Suave SPRAY GEL as a cheaper alternative to Curls Rock. It is amazing and cheap. I love it so much that my sister sends it to me in Germany since I can't find it here. After I shampoo, I spray and comb it thru (with a wide tooth comb) and let it AIR dry (blow dryer is the enemy) and fluff it out with my fingers afterward. Trust me, I've been dealing with these naturally-perm-tight ringlets for over 30 years!

It grows back the exact way it was before you shaved it. Hair type, curly or straight, is a genetic predisposition. Shaving the head will not change your DNA. I have shaved my head a couple of time and I know this to be a fact.
It's true, your hair does come back thicker, but it also comes back the way it was before. If you had curly before, curly it will be again. Same as straight. But much more thicker each razor cut!

The only thing I am aware of that will change how your hair comes back in is chemotherapy as in cancer patients. Other than that, a perm is the only way I know of changing your hair from straight to curly or vice versa.

get some white tissue paper and light serum and hair spray,almost tight but not too tight wrap your hair around the paper then you'll need a defuser attachment for your blow dryer to keep your hair from blowing wildly or put your dryer on low the dry your hair.

If you love extra volume you should put on some gell or something and then dry them with your head looking down. Also you can try to uncurl the frond part of your hair, and let the other curly.

I'd try blow drying it straight and then flat ironing it after that if you want it straight. If you want to keep it curly, I'd suggest that you clip it up occasionally or sweep it back into a chic bun or ponytail.

i want a new doo for summer and every salon i go to has different (and I mean completely different) suggestions for my hair. It is fine and very curly in spiral curls.(.so curly when it is wet it is in the middle of my back and to my ears when dry.) I have super senceitive skin and break out from most leave in styling products... I do NOT want straight hair just nice looser curls that will provide some length... so I can stop looking like little orphan Annie when I am out of the pool ^_^
Try using the perm called Pink. I am African American but, i used to have the same grain as you. pink didn't make my hair flat but made my hair more manageable. although, my hair is still kind of curly
Different quality of relaxers give different results. If you don't wish to have straight hair or a wave, have your hair permed into a bigger curl.

Your best bet is to use a mild relaxer. More specifically "Just for Me" Its a relaxer for kids and it wont take away all of your curls but will relax the curls you do have. Remember use a mild relaxer or else you could wind up bald or with a burned scalp! Best of luck!

L'Oreal Superior Preference is the best, and the conditioner that comes with it is great!!! If your hair gets tangled when you color it, just put some of that conditioner in and the tangles will fall out.

Natural Instincts hair dye works good. I have curly hair and I use this kind and my hair is still as healthy as before. Of course it is a semi-permanent, but it should be better for your hair to use this one. Give it a try and good luck.
I have used "nice and easy" the last few times.
Dark brown works very well and it didn't look very dry. It was however very very dark! It grows out before it fades but I have not had similar luck with the lighter shades of the same product. I prefer light brown/ dark blond but that's hard to achieve because my hair is all gray on the sides and still brown (darker than it was when I was younger) on the top of my head so now I get two different shades no matter what I use

If you want your hair dark brown or black, Nice and Easy is a good choice. Otherwise I don't know what to tell you. I am still looking myself.

The only thing I am aware of that will change how your hair comes back in is chemotherapy as in cancer patients. Other than that, a perm is the only way I know of changing your hair from straight to curly or vice versa.

My suggestion is once you get out of the shower pat your hair dry with a towel...don't rub it. Then put some styling cream in it or gel, or even mousse and let it dry. DO NOT TOUCH IT again if you can avoid it. Don't bush it, don't comb it, just leave it. You'll find your curls stay tight and pretty all day.
Well it depends on how long you hair is. If it is long enough put it in a tight pony tali right on the top of your head. Then just let the curls flop around the sides.

one thing to do is play with lots of bobby pins. i put my hair in a really sloppy ponytail and then pin it up really loosely into a bun. let lots of strands fall out and leave your bangs really loose. this looks really cute and casual. another fun thing to try is playing with different ways to wear a bandana. there are actually a lot of different ways to tie them on and ive been experimenting lately with wearing one all tied up like Rosie (the famous feminist poster girl) with a knot on the top. if you get really desperate just go at it with highlights to make yourself feel better. have fun !

My hair is curly and frizzy - especially now with the humidity the frizz is just out of control. I can't let my hair down because of all the frizz and even in a ponytail, the short hairs on my head stick out, creating what I call the halo of frizz. If I put gell or other products that only makes the frizz more compact, but the little hair still stick out. I tried using clips to tame the frizz and it would take over 6 clips to keep it all in place and it looked bad. Would it be ok to just trim the "halo of frizz," and if so, how short? or is there something else that can be done?
don't cut that it will just make it stick out more when it grows. try using anti frizz creams or some kind or ati-frizz serum i think John Freida and then use a defuser attachment on your blow-dryer and dry your hair using it. Should help have softer curls

I mean you can buy cheap products like Pateine Pro-V mousse foam on your damp hair and then use a diffuser on your blowdryer to make the curls nice. Thats one option
I have bought this ionic straightener online for about 70bucks and it has worked wonders. Its expensive but Ive had it for more than a year and can get away with making my hair completely straight.

I have very curly hair as well and it may seem to good to be true but what works best for me . Is to only comb it when it's wet usually I do this in the shower. I put mousse in right after I towel dry and style lightly with my fingers to much combing and styling after you apply product causes frizzyness. I use Suave that's right Suave maximum hold it's only $2 a can and it last for ever. I usually let it air dry but if you use a defuser use only the cool setting it will keep it from frizzing up on you.

When you blow dry your hair, try using a diffuser attatchment on the blowdryer. ALWAYS blow dry with your hair upsidedow, this gives your roots volume and makes all flyaways and split ends stay down.
Try conditioner
No mousse. Dry on low heat setting till it's only a bit damp, then put something like Frizz Ease or Garnier Fructis Hard Curl in it. Scrunch. Do it evenly all the way around. Then dry on COOL setting for about ten minutes or until almost dry. Then leave it alone and let it finish drying and hardening on it's own. Don't touch it or the curls will straighten out or something else not what you desired. If you must primp it later in the day, use fingers only, and maybe a bit of water. No hair brushes, picks, or combs.
before blowdrying apply straighten out gel you can get it at walgreens, it'll hold down the curls and frizz and leave your hair smoothe and silky

Helps to maintain curl and tame frizzies.
Take down first thing, allow to dry naturally, if your hair is still to damp to wear out, then use blow dryer on low with a diffuser.

I work at a salon, and I see what the hairdressers do. When the hair is damp they put in some product (something that helps hold the curl) then thet take sections of the hair and twist them into ringlets. They let it air dry like this, and they turn out beautiful.

it's almost impossible to have the neat wash and wear curly hair when you have a ton of it. i have curly hair too, and it's always a chore. Getting it thinned(professionaly) would help you tremendously. your thickness will grow back, but for the time being your hair will be alot less heavy and will be loads easier to manage. good luck.

Which was kinda neat but...it was kinda crazy for me lol Luckily after I stopped using it, it stopped being curly.

First off, we need to start by improving hair from the inside. Drink about 8 cups of water daily, eat plently of protein, fruits, vegetable, and omega 3 fatty acids (found in fish).
Latin, Biracial, African-American, and Mediterranean hair tends to be dryer than Caucasian hair, so moisture is a must. Buy a good, salon-quality moisturizing shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, and leave-in conditioner.
Try not to wash your hair everyday if you can help it, and if you have to wash it everyday, do not use shampoo daily because it strips hair of natural moisture and oils. Do use conditioner daily. Go in the shower, wet your hair, and apply a good amount of conditioner. It's better to brush it now because it will minizmize breakage. Then after about 10 minutes, wash it out with warm water and finish with a cool/cold water rinse for shine.
Squeeze excess water out of hair and start by using a leave-in conditioner to protect hair from UV Rays, and harsh chemicals in mousse, gel, etc. You might want to scrunch with a gel, mousse, but try not to use hairspray. It never works with scrunching curls.
You might also want to use a deep conditioning treament weekly or biweekly. Use a salon-quality one, because there really is a difference in it from very cheap products.

When your hair is dry, do NOT brush it because that is what makes it into an afro. Also, if you can't wash it because it's a very little time to get ready, seperate hair into about 8 sections. Wet the sections with water and put in leave-in conditioner. Brush out the section and then twist, then scrunch using gel. Do this to each section, one by one.
Along with gel to scrunch, you may want to buy a curl booster. This will tighten and define curls and will also help keep frizz to a minimum or rid it completely.

I have thick curly hair myself. I use Curls Rock by Catwalk and it works well for taming the frizzies. Catwalk has other products for curly hair that can be used with Curls Rock that may offer additional control if you need it.
I have very curly, thick hair as well. The key is to try and keep it condtioned and also use products designed for curly hair. I love Catwalk Curls Rock shampoo and conditioner. They have built in curl enhancers in them and it makes me once dry hair feel soft. I also use Tresemme curl defining mousee and it works wonders! I get people asking me all the time if I have a spiral perm because it defines my curls so well. Once you style your wet hair try to not mess with it in any way. THe more you play with curly hair the frizzier it gets. ANd if you blow dry....air drying is best....use a diffuser.

well first of all, what shampoo are you using? because i recommend Garnier Fructis Curl %26amp; Shine. It works really well, and adds moisture. Dont forget to use the conditioner.
This may sound gross, but what i do is i shampoo my hair maybe only twice a week, and condition it everytime i shower. shampooing takes away moiture, and volume too. But if your hair gets greasy easily this wont be a good idea. you might want to try it, hopefully it works!
My hair always frizzed up really bad. Then I went to a hair salon and had it trimmed and layered which helped. They also suggested a gel that I put in my hair before I style it. It's called super skinny and it seems to help keep the frizzies down. I also use a straightening iron on mine so that I have straight hair. If you want to keep curls try the gels for curls.

After you wash your hair, put in a leave in conditioner, Or go to Walgreens or Walmart and get a chemical straightener, It costs like 7 dollars, and when i did it to my hair (my hair was super curly) it mellowed it out
If you just put in a leave in conditioner it'll calm it down a little after it's straightened and make it smoother.
try using a straightening shampoo / conditioner before straightening, also anti-frizz creams help too. maybe a higher heating straightener.

You should buy a really good straightener and a serum. I use proclaim's serum. I buy it a Sally's. First you should blow dry your hair. Then, depending on how thick and long your hair is, put in enough serum. Then straighten it. I also have super curly hair and i know that it takes a long time to straighten, especially if it's thick, but "it hurts to be beautiful". Then put in some more serum and comb it really well. GOOD LUCK.
The Chi is the best hair straightener out there. I have tried many different kinds. My hair is naturally wavy and it takes me about 10 mins to straighten my hair. Buy a very good straitner. I have a Paul Michell. I helps prevent frizz and it's specially made not to burn your hair. Do small sections at a time. Comb the area you want to straiten. While you're slowly combing, follow with the staitner. The comb is helping stretch your hair and it makes it easier for the strainer to perfectly make your hair strait.
Before you straiten your hair you can go ahead and use a smooth down oil. Not a lot because it will look as if a dog licked your hair. It's calle REDKEN "smooth down oil" I helps prevent your hair from frying and reduces frizz.
Use a shampoo and conditioner that are made to smooth and de-frizz hair, then use a smoothing serum on your wet hair. Dry your hair in 2-3 layers starting from the bottom. Separate a chunk of your hair, then clip the rest up out of the way. Hold the dryer with the nozzle pointing in the direction that your hair grows (aka down) so that you don't add volume while you're drying. Once your hair is dry, do the same thing you did while drying and split into sections starting from the bottom and pinning up the rest. Spritz a little bit of spray meant to be put on hair exposed to heat on each layer as you straighten to minimize damage, then straighten in 1 inch sections, going over pieces a few times to get them extra straight. It really helps if you have someone to help you get the back pieces when you're doing this the first few times, especially if your hair is very long. Finish off by running the straightener on a low setting over the top of your hair, and running a bit more serum (2-3 drops, max) over the top of your hair with your fingers to flatten any more fly-aways. Try to do this at night so that you can sleep on it and brush your scalp's natural oils through your hair and touch up any poofy spots in the morning.

hey girl i know EXACTLY how you feel cause my hair's just like yours! This is totally works for me, and it produces sleek, silky and straight hair!! You are going to need:
A shower
A blow drier
A straightener
A boar brush
Conditioner
Ok, here's a step by step way to straighten your hair:
1. Shower, and when you're comb in some conditioner without rinsing. (Preferably straightening shampoo!) This will tame down the frizz a ton and make your hair beautifully sleek and soo much more easier to straiten! But watch out, because if you put in too much, your hair will look like a grease ball!
2. Flip your hair up and down repeatedly to shake the water out and to separate your hair from chunks.
3. When your done, clip up your hair in layers, leaving a layer down.
4. Using a boar brush, blow-dry your hair strait. Point the blow drier down from the top of your head so that it flows with your hair, NEVER have it go up because that's a one way ticket to frizz ville! Repeatedly brush your hair, pulling it so that it strait with tension, not lax.
5. When you are done with one layer, unclip another and do that one until your entire head is done.
WARNING: Do NOT leave any part of your hair wet! That totally damages your hair and frizzes it like crazy!
6. Once again clip up your hair in layers leaving one section down.
7. This time, you are going to straighten it with a pre-heated straightener. You'll discover that your hair is wayy more ready to go your way and not at all as frizzy!
8. When you are done with one layer, do another, one at a time until your hair is all the way done.

You can have it professionally straightened - much like a perm, but the opposite effect is achieved. OR, you can buy a hair straightener: two metal plates that you "iron" your hair with.

- blow dry it straight (using a round brush while you blow dry)
- put your hair in hot rollers (large sized), once you take out the rollers, brush your hair vigorously (most of the curl will loosen, except the ends), this will leave your hair mostly straight with a little flip under or over at the ends
*tip - keep the rollers parallel (horizontal) to the ground in your hair, not perpindicular (vertical), this will avoid the banana curl look
Blow dry your hair straight with a round brush, then use a flat iron or straightner to make it perfect.
Well this is the hard part if you have the arms for it. First you wash, then gel, then blow dry completely straight with a hair brush, and a diffuser. Or you could buy a straightner, or use hot roller then blow dry

Do you like to straighten it? If you do, a good flat iron and/or hair dryer can help there, just make sure you use a good heat protectant spray for your hair first! I like the kind made by V05, plus it smells really nice. A nice mousse can help tame it and keep frizzies down, too.
Now, if you like wearing it curly, I'd recommend maybe getting your hair thinned out (actually, if it's too thick, get it thinned out a little anyway - I did, and it helped). Get a good mousse that will help hold your curls without making your hair look too overdone or out of control. Pantene makes a good brand just for curls (scrunch it into your still-wet hair and let dry) and Regis has a good brand for it as well.
Believe it or not but I had the same problem and all the frizz and stuff try sleek and shine shampoo and conditioners like Fructise it contains real fruit oils you see and feel results right away beliefe me it worked for me!!!!!

John Frida makes a product called "downplay" Volume Reducer...I have very think curly hair almost past my butt VERY hard to manage...this is a wonderful product. Takes the frizz out and makes it lay down. Put it on wet and finish with a glossing spray laminator...And by the way you can buy all this stuff at wal-mart or walgreens its not expensive
I have really thick and curly hair and I experienced a whole new sense of control recently.
First get a good cut with some layers or thinning to eliminate some of the weight. Speaking for myself, I have such thick heavy hair that it seems to fall from its own weight without some layering...at that point my hair isn't even curly anymore, just a bushy flumpy mess.
The product that was SO amazing for me was hair putty. I guess any of the really gloppy stuff will work. They have some in a "glue" bottle. But mine came in a jar. Wax, pomade, putty. It is really tacky and you don't need much, and mine (Tresemme) recommended clapping your hands together before you put it on, to activate it, it strings out in your hand a little like melted marshmellows.
Then work it through your hair, pay attn more to the roots.
Blowdry. If you like it straight, you should be able to just pull it straight with a brush while you dry it. If you want it curly, scrunch it together from underneath while drying from the top. I don't know why this matters but it does seem to.
Apply a little more putty to finish your hair...you can muss it up and then rearrange it back to its style, it seems to give my hair, it gives it a sort of memory of what it is supposed to look like.
YOU CANNOT use too much putty. If you do, it ends up really greasy feeling.

My hair is wavy, and frizzy. If I don't straighten it, I usually just put some mouse or balm in and go. I like the style, but I find that the bottom of my hair stays curly/kinky and the top goes flat and straight
Any suggestions how to keep some curl on the top of my head? I know cutting it would help, but I like keeping the length for the summer.
After you put balm or mouse in your hair use claw clips, also known as butterfly clips, to clip your hiar and then blwdry with a diffuser or let your hair air dry while eating breakfast, putting on makeup, etcetera.
The criss-cross method helps to disguise a part and give the top of your curls a boost. Take small sections of hair from either side of the part, criss-cross, and clip with a claw clip.

I have the same problem!! Put in a curling cream - try to get one from the salon! Also, use specific shampoo and conditioner for you hair. Then add the curling cream - flip your hair and use a diffuser. Crunch your hair as your diffusing it. Leave a little of it wet, it actually adds more moisture that way when you do.
getting a trim would be the best way...also, massage some conditioner (leave in) into your scalp and make sure to get the roots good...it works really well;)
My hair is really curly naturally, but it is very bulky and 'big' so I straighten it everyday. I would like to know if there is any hair styles or styling tips that would help me appreciate my curls more.
I so know what you mean about your hair mine is just like that. But my stylist finally cut it the last time just right. Get layers that cascade to deal with the bulk and I had my hair thinned and trimmed to make it less big. Now I can deal with the curls and I don't spend hours using and iron. oh my hair is shoulder length now but I think this could work for other lengths. Also use some anti frizz serum.

The longer the better, when you have curly hair and its short you will have that poodle look. Just use products that keep your curls moisturized so they don't get out of hand. I wish I had some natural curl......Bone straight here :(

Things to try would be layers and getting it permanently straightened. Permanently straightened is like a perm, just instead of making it curly, it makes it straight. According to my hair stylist, there are three kinds. I'm getting the light one first, then if I don't like those results, I'll try the medium one. The hard one is for really really really hard to brush African American hair.

I have long, brown, very curly hair. I bleached the ends of my hair, so now they are dead and I'm going to get it cut. It will probably be around shoulder length or somewhat shorter. I get frustrated cause there are not very many options for curly hair when it comes to interesting cuts. I am interested in having some sort of Gothic look, or punk look. Hmm... I would think an angled hairstyle would be great except for the fact you have curly hair.People with curly hair usually have straight bangs when they are side swept which is at an angle and it would look cool if you had a point like think to the tip of your bangs. Hair to your shoulders would also be easy and i'm really not trying to make you look preppy at all you'll jsut figure out the outcome when you get your hair cut.

I believe you will need to get it styled.
It needs to be thinen.
A good hair stylist will know how to deal with it.

When you blow dry your hair, try using a diffuser attatchment on the blowdryer. ALWAYS blow dry with your hair upsidedow, this gives your roots volume and makes all flyaways and split ends stay down.
Try conditioner
No mousse. Dry on low heat setting till it's only a bit damp, then put something like Frizz Ease or Garnier Fructis Hard Curl in it. Scrunch. Do it evenly all the way around. Then dry on COOL setting for about ten minutes or until almost dry. Then leave it alone and let it finish drying and hardening on it's own. Don't touch it or the curls will straighten out or something else not what you desired. If you must primp it later in the day, use fingers only, and maybe a bit of water. No hair brushes, picks, or combs.
before blowdrying apply straighten out gel you can get it at walgreens, it'll hold down the curls and frizz and leave your hair smoothe and silky
I have extremely curly, poofy, frizzy hair and i tried everything from John Frida to Redkin nothing worked, but I found this amazing moose it literally takes me 3 minutes to do my hair.
1.)First make sure you wash everything out of your hair.( Hairsprays,gels, etc.)
2.) Next get Alberto V05 Curvacous Curls! Cover your hair in it.
3.) Take a hair dryer with a diffuser attachment and dry your hair until your hair is damp.
4.) Go!

since i have curly hair also,i use to keep it long for awhile, but recently i had gotten it short, a good layering helps,also u could use a good conditioner after shampooing.
Shampoo and condition your hair at night, apply mousse, hold head upside down,grasp hair and twist until twisted into a bun, secure with pins.
Helps to maintain curl and tame frizzies.
Take down first thing, allow to dry naturally, if your hair is still to damp to wear out, then use blow dryer on low with a diffuser.

I work at a salon, and I see what the hairdressers do. When the hair is damp they put in some product (something that helps hold the curl) then thet take sections of the hair and twist them into ringlets. They let it air dry like this, and they turn out beautiful.
i have the same problem go to walmrt buy all the curlz up porducts and use them, also to hold the burl use aussie texture gel

it's almost impossible to have the neat wash and wear curly hair when you have a ton of it. i have curly hair too, and it's always a chore. Getting it thinned(professionaly) would help you tremendously. your thickness will grow back, but for the time being your hair will be alot less heavy and will be loads easier to manage. good luck.
