Did you have the iron work professionally done? I have never come across hair that did not straighten when done properly and using proper product, taking SMALL sections. Also, it needs to be blown straight with round brush first, also in small sections. There is no other way besides permanent straightening, because of the structure of the hair.

You need a professional ceramic flat iron with temperature settings; FHI, CHI, H2O. A good one usually starts at $100. Use a product with it a few good ones Brocato hot shapes, Sexy-flat iron spray, Paul Mitchell skinny serum. They will help with straightening and keeping the frizz away. Then it's practice.

Take this for what its worth.
My daughter and I both have thick naturally curly long hair. When I was 16 I tried to use a straightener on my hair and burnt it so badly that I had to get it cut really short.
Now as for my daughter she wants her hair straight sometimes and she uses a hair straighting iron and it works for that day only, then shes back to normal.
The only way is to permenant straighten it or talk to a beautician about a quick fix since your isn't working.
Good Luck

I have think hair too, try to split the hair into sections while straightening. start on the bottom. leave a little bit of hair and put the rest up into a hair tie, straigten wat u have brushing it the whole time. put that section in a hair tie and do tthe next.
this is wat i do. it might take a while but it usually works.
also, dont use a cheap straightner. go to ur local beauty supply store and ask for a good one in the price range u want and they will usually point 1 out to u that will work 4 u.

The best item I've found, and I've tried a lot of them, is a certain Hair Iron in an infomercial that has "grooves" for your hair to flow through. I don't even have to blow dry my hair straight first. It works on dry hair with some styling product in it.

What is the best way to straighten thick curly hair?
I also have really thick curly hair and I don't know if you would like this option for your daughter but I ask my hair stylist to thin my hair out and it actually helps a lot when I go through the process of straightening my hair. I'm assuming it's to much to to blow dry her hair straight because it is for me...so you should probably try a better flat iron...I purchased the "solia" it can be found at folica.com there are also many other options that are very good and still "cheap" ( I put cheap in quotations because it's not cheap but actually cheaper than the other $200 flat irons.) The price is actually worth it in my opinion because I use it everyday. Good luck! Oh yeah and another thing...I use hair serum...you should probably try that also it really smooths the hair out.

My daughter and I both have curly hair. My daughters' is very long, kinky, and thick. We use a CHI flat iron, Paul Mitchell Super Skinny, and Bed Head Control Freak Serum 3. Place two pumps of Super Skinny in your palms and rub together. Rub into dripping wet hair. Be sure to get the ends. I then put about a quarter size amount of Control Freak on my palms and rub that into my hair. Let your hair dry naturally or dry with a hair dryer. Using a brush or comb and the flat iron straighten small sections. You will have to go over the sections several times until hair is smooth. Do not leave the flat iron in one place for to long, keep moving. When I'm done I like to use a very small amount of Sebastian Molding Mud. I have used cheap flat irons (like the kind you buy at Wal Mart), and they do not work anywhere near as well as a CHI. Good luck!
